Tonight I decided to give the latest version of Deathball another go and it seemed I had the exact same problem. Deleting the ini file fixed things.

I agree with fro. There needs to be a little more friction when the ball is rolling on the ground. Sometimes, when it rolls at high speed, it even seems that it 'll never slow down. Try catching that sucker then!

Just a tip: get DavidM to include some directions to the site/channel/etc into DB

Nah, I just entered an empty server and was waiting a bit for others to join. Which of course did not happen.

In the statistics screen (F3) you get to track how much % of the time the ball has been in each sides of the map. However, these percentages get screwed when you cary the ball across the line to the other side.

Observe: The ball is on the red side. The statistics show a slow increase of the value ...

Teh weirdness. This bug was less prominent in 1.7, so it can't be Epic's fault alltogether.
