The woman (french) fell in love with a man (german) during the war. She was accused of collaboration with the enemy and as a punishment her hair was shaved off.

I don't know if it's the answer you're after but this sort of thing actually used to happen.

She fell in love a guy (or girl perhaps) in a burning building, and rushed in to save him (or her). As a result all her hair was singed off. Hmmm, doesn't quite fit the punishment theory. Perhaps I'd better ask some questions... Did she fall in love with a man? Was the hair loss punishment inflicted ...

Was the hair loss self inflicted?

She fell in love with a guy who was alergic to her hair, so she cut it all off for him...

Was the woman already married and fell in love with another man? Then, as a punishment, her husband cut off all her hair so that the other guy wouldn't love her anymore?
(Not that we know the other guy actually loved her back..)

Does she love her electrolysis machine (and lost all her hair while "loving" her machine)?

Was she already bald (and wearing a wig)?
