For those interested, the long time public STNY redirect is now dead and gone. H3rb, the maintainer of it, decided that he'd heard enough complaints from ungrateful bastids that it wasn't up, and zero offers of help to write a simple upload system to keep it going. Now it's gone for good.

No matter what gametype you play, if you have ver 1.9 DB installed and the server has version 1.8, you're screwed if you don't delete the 1.9 file(s) out of your System directory.

I call anything other than DM a MOD to a first person shooter.

But yes, Twig has it correct. Servers with older versions installed will not allow clients with newer versions installed, even if you are not playing DeathBall.

Thanks for your reply Twig. I was more referring to the fact that if you have 1.9 installed, you can't even *connect* to a server that has 1.8 installed even to play a different MOD, like Bombing Run for example. You have to go delete the .u file out of your system directory.

The servers I play on generally use http://ut2k3maps.gaming.stny.com/maps/. It's the free public redirec that (I assumed) just about everyone uses.

So you are "allowed" to upload the maps to a public redirect? That would solve half the problem. I kind of figured that someone would have already done ...

And this is why we can't use deathball and other gametypes as well. Whoever made this MOD didn't make the mod backward compatible to run the maps, so you have to update the maps if you update the mod. But did anyone bother to put them on the redirect? Looks ...
