DB and UT2004

Post by NitrousOxide »

With the improved netcode in UT2004, is it likely that we may get to see 7v7 become standard matches, presuming that DB will be coded for the newer Unreal engine?

Could this bring an end to teammate boosting and enable teams to play matches with specific formation plans (3-2-2, 2-3-2, 2-2-3 etc), due to having six outfield players?

Spam, err, I mean discuss...;)

pff..like it's really going to be improved (maybe it will be a bit better, and with more bugs)

I don't think it would be interesting tbh =\
I'd try it either way.

I remember first time I joined a 5on5 \o/ Thought it was spammy as hell :)

need db-bigger-cube then
ya well it would be possible, 7on8 was possible, as soon as the 16th player joined the server or some player crashed after a short time.
now epic supports large maps with 100 players and spammy gameplay, so we might benefit from that (if we waste money on 2k4 :D)
but i dont think i would be a big fan of more than 5on5.

at the moment you need to attack with 3 people, with 2 you hardly have a chance, too predictable. so you need to attack with 3, only one player left in defense, which makes it easiert for the opposite team if they intercept the ball. if you have 7 players on your team you can have 2 or 3 defenders at once

we should at least try it tho.
big-cube failed, because it was way too large
we need cube x 1.3 or something

7v7 could be pretty fun, but you obviously need a much larger map than the current cube

Just because there is a better netcode, doesn't mean everyone's PCs could cope with larger maps and 13 other players on pitch. Might be interesting to have a go at 7v7 but I'll eat my hat if it ever becomes the db norm...

i dont want it to become "normal"
its too complex tactic-wise
and pickups wouldnt fill etc.

I don't think you can compare those massive servers (there are only a few) with the relatively 'small' servers in UT2003 and UT2004.

Besides, the netcode is built for that =\

Please no! Boosting is way to much fun and u can use it in many different ways.

And yea 7on7 need larger maps, but i dont think that it 'll be more fun.. there is only 1 ball, ppl 'll geting bored touching the ball more seldon ;)
