hi,

thats a problem of the server config!

if the server admin would remove the serverpackages for
deathball, you would be able to play on this server.

when im starting a server, i only add server packages
to the serve.ini which the current mod/gametype uses!
(no more, no less)

For those interested, the long time public STNY redirect is now dead and gone. H3rb, the maintainer of it, decided that he'd heard enough complaints from ungrateful bastids that it wasn't up, and zero offers of help to write a simple upload system to keep it going. Now it's gone for good.

If you were one of the people that bitched, gg ass.
If you know php and didn't offer a hand, shame on you.

The STNY redirect was a pillar for the community in UT and UT2003. As an admin who relied on his generosity, I was truly thankful that the man was unselfishly providing the space and bandwidth to all. It will be missed, and I doubt we'll see another act of kindness such as his ever again.

What the crap are you talking about? Your post is WAAAAAY off topic. Perhaps you should read the thread again...

Imaginos, you sound... Nevermind.

I never complained about the redirect. If you think I did you're an idiot. (Implying that if you don't think I complained then you are not an idiot.)

I know some php but was not aware he needed help as the upload script worked fine for me the two times I uploaded a map nearly a year ago. If you know any web coding and didn't offer to help as it seems you were aware of his requests for help, shame on you.

I have no idea why the STNY post showed up in a discussion about incompatabilities between 1.8 and 1.9 Death Ball. Perhaps your post belongs somewhere else?

A thread hijacker inviting me to post elsewhere? Thanks champ, but stick to moderating your own forum. (Wherever that might be)

I saw some fellow admins mentioning STNY as if it is still in operation, I provided them an update. If my post has no relevance to you, sorry, but I couldn't care less.

There is nothing to discuss about incompatabilities and the problems they cause to servers that don't host Deathball as its primary or dedicated gametype. Deathball is an evolving mod and the default maps will naturally evolve with it. If people choose to play on sloppy servers run by admins too lazy to keep them running cleanly that's their right to do so. If they also don't have the sense to tell the admin they are running unnecessary and/or obsolete serverpackages, that's hardly the fault of TeamVortex.. Redirects are most certainly on-topic in this discussion and well-maintained ones are required to avoid the problem as presented by Chrispan in this, his thread. Why you are trying to steer it in a direction that would be better served by reading all the ut2003 serveradmin guides and faqs at unrealadmin.org is beyond me.

As for idiocy awards, I see you replied to my post as if it was written to you. I think that speaks for itself..

Apology accepted.

Heh, I'm the one that told Chris to post here, lol. As he's the DeathBall fanboy in our clan and I set up the current version on our server (and therefore noticed the problem when playing an unrelated gametype on another server) I figured he'd be more "well known" over here so it seemed appropriate that he pose my question. After the first useless response I decided to jump in.

Your attitude is pretty poor, to say the least. However, you might have inadvertently stumbled into something that may help. Wait... Nope... Nevermind... Your post was useless.

I find it hard to believe that no function was built into this mod to take into account that not everyone updates their version immediately upon release. Furthermore, some server-operator companies have a "default-install" that unfortunately includes a previous version of deathball. You are correct in that folks should keep their stuff up to date on their servers, but we live in a sadly imperfect world where not everyone has time to muck with a server on a given day during the week. I don't know if it's a UT problem or a DB problem, but having a server with version 1.8 installed and it rejecting someone with version 1.9 seems buggy, especially when you're not even playing deathball.

/puts the n00b on ignore

Yet my post is still replied to as if it was personalized and addressed to "pompous ass deathball rookie with issues".

If you set up your own server and can't fix it, just say so. There's been more than enough advice in the thread and I seriously doubt any serverhost forces Deathball on a paying client that didn't request it.

Apparenly you don't grasp the concept of being ignored, fool. Heh.

Here it is: you're there, but you're not seen... :noob:
