Question for DavidM - a serious one I promise.

Post by [V3]Optimal »

Is it possible to make db work with out having ut2003 installed. Like just put all the required files it needs in one big dl. Tuesday 2k4 comes out. And my hd is already packed with games/pr0n and shit. And ut2003 should be deleted.

Even if you do make a 2k4 version of db, you will still have a lot of people who haven't got ut2004 or don't want it. And will stick to the ut2003 version of db. And the community is already so small that db can't afford to split into 2 different versions.

What can be done?

well do it like me
delete all maps that have nothing to do with DB (except the entry map)
i'll try to make a list of sound + texture files that can be deleted to play regular deathball
especially texture files are damn heavy, and i dont wanna keep all the epic stuff on my drive anyway for no reason

K sounds like the good thing to do.

Edit - btw it would be easier to just say what files can't be deleted than to do which ones can.

I'd have to agree with Optimal, this way you can just cut/paste the required files and delete the rest of the shit.

I can make some kinda custom uninstaller thatll just keep the needed files and deletes the others... I'd just need the list of files to be kept...

Err..how about you do it differently?
Delete the files that are in regular UT2k3 and keep all of the rest ;)

That way you won't delete custom maps and the like :)

ok..change it to: Delete the files that are in regular UT2k3 and are not needed for deathball O_o

With bazzi's way, you would just delete everything except for default DB files, and files from UT2k3 that DB need :x
That means you would delete the UT2k3 files you wudn't need, but also all the custom maps etc O_o

edit:

Unless of course he's only talking about the actual official UT2k3 files that come on the cds and with the patches, as opposed to the entire UT2k3 directory ;)

Misunderstood? ;p

or how about just updating to 2k4 as soon as possible...i really don't have the space on my harddrive to keep both 2k4 and 2k3 installed
