makush - bot paths

Post by Twigstir »

makush, could you explain what is needed for bots in terms of path nodes with your AI?

Will the bots be able to use jumpspots for things like the platforms in Turbin?

Also, I saw the mapping guide. Could you explain Goal player starts better as far as potision? It say 24-32 units from the front of the goal but, also say put it on the goal line.

There shouldn't be anything different with path nodes compared to regular UT. The only special thing bots at the moment use is the goal player start.

Goal player start basically defines where keeper should keep. Its optimal location and direction is same as a keeper has in soccer penalty kick.

"One Goalplayerstart, one player starts there, it should be in the goal. For penatly shots its important that its exactly in the middle and about 24-32 units in front of the line. And its also very important for penalties that the rotation is very exact. The keeper will be able to move on a line 90° to the view direction of the point. So make sure you use exact yaw rotation values there (0, 16384, 32768 or -16384; enter these numbers and you will see what they do). Also bots use the goalplayerstart to determine where the goal is, so don't put it anywhere but on the line, and its gotta point away fromt he goal in a 90° angle, so the bots know from which side to shoot into the goal"

I understand the middle and rotation stuff. But in the above is says "it should be in the goal", "24-32 units in front of the line" and also says "don't put it anywhere but on the line". Those are three different locations.

I assume it should be just in front of the goal so the keeper can dodge without getting stuck on the goal post. The official maps seemed to have the goal start somewhere between the line and the "24-32 unit" statement.

I was looking for a accurate unit distance from the front of the goal for placement. Can you give me that?

I'd use 28uu or as close to the line as possible without keeper getting stuck.
