N00b Difficulties
Okay so I started playing deathball 2 weeks ago.
It's hard to find servers with people on them. This mod doesn't seem to have a lot of players online. What really upsets me is that the servers I do sometimes find with people are passworded. Passworded?! There are few players why would you password the servers?! Why make it even more difficult to play?
And to make matters worse for me, one of the servers where I am most likely to find a game, I'm banned for some reason. I think I went to the bathroom and because I was idling I got banned. The ban said "one level" but many maps have gone by and I'm still banned. People sure aren't making it easy on a n00b like me.
And then there are some of the players that constantly feel the need to harass n00bs. Look I'm new, I have read the online manual, I have read the FAQ, I have read forums, I have played with bots, I know the basics.
I think I'm going to cry now...

Where are you from Overon? North America or Europe?
Life as a n00b in deathball is not easy these days. We, as a community, have discussed it in lengths but the simple fact is that it's not an easy road but if you can make it past the beginning stages you are in for a lot of fun.
As for the passworded servers, the game of deathball has 2 styles of play that ppl enjoy.. this also cannot be changed.
One of the styles, played in passworded servers, involves playing organized pick-up games or scrims where we play 5 v 5 and all positions are set from the beginning. Usually in 20 to 30 minute games. This is a more structured game in slightly bigger maps that uses regular shooting and volleying as options to score.
The other style is public type games, which usually result in Volley Only (VO) games in smaller maps. The gameplay is a little more hectic and less structured, but still a blast if you are into it because you can pull off some amazing moves.
Some people play both but most gravitate towards one or the other. Although we have a small community we have to try to support both styles. If you've learned the basics and would like something a little different than the public servers, go to
North America: #dbmixer or #dbcommunity on irc.gamesurge.net
Europe: #deathball or #dbpickup on irc.quakenet.org (is that right euros?)
You can ask questions here as well as get involved in the pick-up style games (as long as you are willing to listen and learn you will do fine).
Also, you might want to check out http://www.db-community.com for more info. Enjoy!

i got into a nice encounter with a new guy on a server today, who i was just screwing with at first, but blew up at me for no reason
also, just so you know, ive had a shitty week, so if you encounter me and im mean to you, dont take it serious. But chances are i wont be mean to you.
Also if you are looking for north american servers, and they are passworded, they are probably being used for a pickup game, mixer, or a scrim. If you wanna know more about that stuff, come by gamesurge (irc.gamesurge.net) and #dbmixer

Hardly any online players means that when I refresh servers there are only a few players on servers.
I'm in North America.
I know about IRC, I have been using it for 8 years. I'm in #ballers on Gamesurge.\
I got unbanned from the server.

Oh noes! Don't hit me Tim :<
On-T: life's tough being new /o\ unfortunately there aren't too many people playing at all times (although the euro pubs seem to be quite full the last month or so), and a lot of servers you find are passworded.
For one I suggest filtering out passworded servers, makes no sense to view them, and only frustrates you
If you want to get into one of them, usually you'll have to add to a pickup, or pug.
For people in North-America this is usually #dbpug or #dbmixer (the latter is pretty active the last few weeks it seems
Until you feel you're ready for those you'll have to stick to pubs I'm afraid.
Though feel free to hop by on a euro server
Shudn't be too hard on time problem, and if you're good enough I guess you can get used to the ping difference
Hmm..thought it worked for me o_O
Then again, sometimes I get one that's not passworded yet, but I always blamed slow master server for that.
I'm pretty sure I don't get most passworded servers with my filter on, even if people are playing on it (I also filter out full and empty servers, as well as servers with bots)
I'll take a look-see and find out =P
I do know that when you use more than the Default and another filter it gets fucked up though x_X
(I tried having pub and pickup filters besides the default one, but it got fucked up and no matter what I did, pub and pickup would always be the same, you can only really edit default and make 1 new one)
