Headphone recommendations?

Post by Messy »

I've been trying to find some headphones I can buy.

Price only matters to a certain extent (although I'm not looking for perfect Hi-Fi Grado's or some of the more expensive Sennheiser line-ups just yet), but I want as good enough sound quality, and possibly want it to be a headset too.

I started by looking at the Zalman 5.1's (the Theatre 6..there's also a version which has a headset-attachment with it :o) but I didn't like it much.

Maybe my standards are too high and I should get the Zalman since it's only € 43 euros, then buy another top-quality headset to listen to music and such (for my currently non-existant Hi-Fi set-up ;p *cough* so currently just for listening to music with as much quality as possible :)), and possible another one or a set of earphones for my portable devices :(

I don't know :) any recommendations for any of these (or preferably multiple) occasions/situations?

I bought the Sony MDR G82S Over-the-ear Headphones back in 2000 in Dubai.

They are still in use today and sound just as good as back then.

I dont recommend them for wearing out on the street as they do stand out from the crowd (I like to keep a low profile) but I have worn them on occasions on the London Underground and they did a really good job of blocking out the external noise. And since they go really loud, it's great for music as well as games and generally causing premature deafness ;)

Pretty good headphones for the price for portable devices. My ipod would not be the same without :|

they arent top quality stuff but the sound quality is pretty nice for the price.

I'm probably going to end up buying the Zalman headphones, or some logitech headset...I'll probably be using different headphones for music anyway :)

So it looks like I'll end up with a headset for games with medium quality sound, and semi-professional closed circumaural Sennheisers for music both on the street and at home, they'll look like huge earwarmers but I really don't care.

I'm currently looking into the HD 280 Silver, they seem nice, though a bit expensive (€ 109,-)

Too bad I have to go for closed because I want to listen to my music in the classroom and not have everyone complaining. Open headphones should be better for audiophiles, but until I get an uberleet hi-fi set-up together for use at home, I'll have to be able to listen to my music properly in noisy environments.

Besides, Grados > Sennheiser if I'm going to listen at home ;p so I'll just wait till I need those

How's the Logitech headset for normal everyday use besides music Ceno? (as in: gaming and vent/ts/rw etc.)

ps: Circumaural = 'Over-the-ear' :) whatever you'd like to call it :o

Don't get the Zalmann :0. They are really, really bad headphones. They sound like crap compared to my Sennheiser 497s (similar to what Priior said, not top of the line but any better and you start needing an amp). Plus 3D positioning is much worse (wierd huh? considering that's the whole selling point of them).

The only Logitech headset I have is the one that came with UT2004 special edition. These also sound like crap but I'm sure Logitech make better ones (don't they?).

Personally I'd just get the best pair of Grado or Sennheiser that don't require a headphone amp. If you want a headset I have no idea, although Sennheiser make them and people have said good things about Plantronics too (although I heard people saying good things about the UT logitech ones as well. Sheesh, don't people have ears?)
