Offside not included?

Post by Desaster »

I have read in several Treads that Offside
will probable not included.

I am agree with taht, when it meant Offside like in Football(Soccer).

But what about to include offside like in Icehockey.

Almost in every LegoFan Maps, the Keeper shoot the Ball to the other Goal :(

Icehokey Offside will denied this

You mean the 3 line pass rule? That's different from offside. But if the keeper wants to fire the ball all the way down the field that's fine by me, just as long as it's the oppositions keeper ;)

whats wrong? an offside like in football would make a match more exciting. and why would it be controled by the defence? in matches without sprint (seems to be in next season) offside would avoid the f****** goal hangers.

If I was in the db team, i would thin the matter over...

hypathetically a defender could stand right at the offside line (which is midfield isnt it?) and no pass could cross mid field unless you made like 4 zones and divide the field up differently. Sort of a hybrid of hockey and soccer methods of offsides.

basically there would be a blue/red end and blue/red mid field. you can only pass at absolute farthest from blue end to red mid field and so on. It would work but it would totally ruin gameplay IMO. Part of Deathball is cherry picking. No matter how cheap it is it can seperate winning from losing and in league matches unless your playing a really bad defensive team or they just squeek by, cherry picking rarely ever happens.

offside would require some great banana use (if the enemy defense is really really good at absing offside)

offsides MIGHT be ok gameplay wise but would suc with lag. and if offsides was put in boosting would have to go, and that would get you killed davidm :p

you cant really have offsides without sprint

I think if you have offsides, include it as an optional test feature in the next version. Then get your community reactions so you can improve it when you're truly ready to implement it in future versions.

Soccer Versus Deathball in Regards to offsides

Soccer: You cannot knock someone around with a cannon, or frag someone to send them all the way back. The defender's power is in stealing the ball, or at least threatening to do so, to keep the offense back. Offsides allows the defender to use his presence to keep the offense back. Differences in play-skills (such as speed and agility) allow offenders to actually get a shot.

Deathball: Deathball has the ability for the defense to -physically- push people back from offense, preventing the push forward. The defender's presence is already an advantage, because the offense has to worry about the defender's cannon. You can't cannon someone back to their own goal in soccer. Also, in DB, the shooter is handicapped significantly, because there is limited agility at work, and speed is constant across the board.

When speed is locked, the game is about positioning. If you always have to be positioned behind a defender, you're not going to be in really good shape.

If you play with sprint, then there is some difference, in that the shooter can go slightly faster than a defender (which is needed to get around), but the defender can speed up as well. However, at higher speeds, agility becomes a bigger factor, as you don't always hit. (okay.. -you- might.. but not everyone)

But in "Static" DB (I prefer that term personally) positioning is too integral to impliment offsides.

I think this may be a cultural divide sort of thing. Its a random guess, but I'm guessing that Americans (who seem to play non sprint mostly) think of things stratigically in regard to positioning, while Europeans prefer skill tactics, such as going around someone 1v1. A random guess though.

no, americans dont understand soccer.
thats all there is to it.

and ur comparison (though i dont think it accurate) does highlight the prob with db right now.
we do not have the ability to play 1v1 'beat the man in front of you'
NOR
do we have the ability to play tactically because you cant get anywhere else and be any better off than you were before.
this is like an F1 race on a slot car track with all cars limited to 100mph, WOT. you cant pass anyone, you cant turn away from them, go around them, you do nothing but run around the same pace as everyone else w/o doing a damn bit of good as for making space and making a play happen.

and no one even make an arguement against that compared to what db is now.
waiting for a play to happen and making a play happen are 2 different worlds [of gameplay]
