just a mutator idea
its basically a variation on hot potato
the amount of time you are allowed to hold the ball is based on the number of players on your team.
6 players = 2 seconds
1 player = 6 seconds
when you have the ball, a LED style countdown timer should begin. (perhaps with a rising in pitch bleep as time rounds out)
if you run out of time, you die and the ball drops where it is.
the timer resets when the ball is either passed or let go of, or you die.
So, why bother?
a) it can be an on/off mutator (votable?)
b) alternative style of team balancing, particularly useful in odd-player-number situations
c) speeds up the game yet doesnt affect VO (as it is generally played on smaller maps)
d) VO games on larger maps may improve since people with the ball are forced to act quicker
e) ball hoggers are penalised unless they show some skill and get away with some sly 'self-volley movement'. most decent defenders cant be passed this way anyway.

Best played on pro servers for obvious reasons.

if this is to make chances equal for a 1on6 match it will fail.
ball hoggers penalised?
i sometimes keep the ball, because nobody is getting open in offense. everybody who's played with me knows that im pretty much the most un-ego thing you can play with...
and if my time was running out i'd just kick the ball to the wall.... -_-

well thing is i'm in the same state of mind now as when i wrote the idea (a bit high tbh) and i think i came up with it originally to improve VO
see 3 on 3 VO is intrinsically unbalanced.
the team holding the ball more often than not, use the goalkeeper to push forward with the ball and the other two players 'get in position'
but the thing is its too easy to either keep back the defenders or jump off one of their boosts into an open position.
The offensive goal keeper passes and its usually a goal.. if not, rinse and repeat, sometimes with a turnover, fall asleep..
this idea doesnt change this dynamic a lot it just speeds it up... cos its kinda boring as it is
now we all know that when another player joins the game in 3v3 the game balance is totally screwed. I think this mutator would really help in this situation as the player-up team has to play quicker.

edit2: DavidM, its not really about balancing 6v1 or about penalising ball hoggers. It's about making uneven games in pubs more even. Let's face it, with low player counts, an odd number of players always causes team balance issues.
