I like the look of the map, looks nice..but horrid fps.

People spent more time walking around the sides and climbing on the lights then they did playing..it got boring

the good people at the RusH server compressed the current version of Gym o its only like 8 megs... i forget how to do it but it optimizes

A few suggestions to lower the framerate problem are removing the trees from outside and compressing your custom textures.

Also, can you make the sides of the gym something besides wooden? the ball gets lost sometimes.

make the rims bigger i scored but ball cannot, CANNOT fall through. I heard the music but ball doesnt fall through, so make it a TAD bigger! Make other mat red i agree. ALso if u can make it where u can climb the latters offline only or something like that...or u could release a version of non climbable ladders and climable ladders ;)

I have an idea. I have noticed a few people have suggested baskets to score in once in a while. Why not make two versions? Leave everything the same minus the ladders and the normal goals. In this second version having removed the goals, put up basketball hoops, in which the ball has to go in from the top. What I mean is, you have a big enough hole in the top for a ball to get in, but small enough on the bottom to prevent people from making the shots underneath. This creates a much more difficult shot, but much more like basketball in effect. Also if you did do this, you would want to make sure that it is high enough so players cannot propel friends on top of the net to keep the ball from going in. Or rather than this you could put a trigger death entity there to avoid players doing so. What do you think?

would be unplayable, think about all the volley spam ... you wouldn't get a straight shot.

No, the idea was you couldn't really volley it in. You get close enough to the hoop and do a small powerup shot up into the air at an upward angle. If you don't put too much power into the shot, and you are a good aim, it comes back down and falls through the hoop

That would be a very boring game..

Though it involves a lot of skill to make it, if you cant volley it in, it demotes teamwork.

OK no problem, it just seemed like a good idea at the time. :p
I love your map, but I discovered one little problem with it. Whenever I shoot the ball from my own half into the enemy goals, rather than resetting, it scores? The ball is only reset if I shoot it into the enemy goals from my penalty area. Is this a bug? Or did you want it that way?

yes, I know what you mean ... didn't describe it correctly I guess. everyone will volley away on your shots at the basket as they're moving very slowly. the ball would almost never reach the basket, cause it will be spammed from its original path all the time.

new version

Post by aimbot »

New version now available at Deathball Map Depot

Some of the changes include:

- keeper starts moved back to start inside keeper zone
- ladders are now unclimbable / blocking volumes added to ladder faces (so players don't get stuck)
- red goal now has an orange/red mat
- some trees removed and level of detail on trees reduced significantly
- custom textures compressed, resulting in about half the previous file size as well as an overall performance increase

I get about 60-70 fps on my machine, compared to November, where I get around 50-60 ... so it'll hopefully be better for you guys now. :D

Updated version works great. I haven't found any bugs and it runs like a dream on max detail (I got a Radeon 9700, so that may be part of the reason :p).

I havent played the newer version yet but i remeber in the old one that the penalty area was small.

justa though cause people can get so close without bing pbox fragged in it.
