Because he's trying too hard to manipulate us into taking the path he's chosen and doesn't want to allow us any free will to intervene.
He appears to be much more powerful than seems possible, ergo I postulate that his interventions are illusional and should simply be ignored
(plus he's a very dull character if he's going to make himself all-powerful, and all he does is annoy people with deus ex machina solutions to whatever we throw at him. that kind of behaviour is best ignored - it ruins the narrative)
