I just got here. I read the first question and the most recent one.

Why is a manhole cover round?

It's an offshoot of Adamsons Theorem pertaining to Murphy's Law. This theorem states that any object with corners that hits someone will hit them with the corner. If an object has more corners, it is no mroe likely that a corner will hit you, but it will hurt less.

So

The makers of manholes obviously decided to make the corners so many and thusly so small that they are only visible on the molecular level and therefore appear circular to the naked eye, and hurt as little as possible.

Thank goodness the people at the manhole factroy were familiar with the theorem.

I'll answer the most recent question later.

I'll ask my cat to hunt the bird. Unfortunately, my cat might defeat the bird, but eat the sandwich herself.
