The area in which the sound is heard should be greatly reduced so that only players that are CLOSELY (ie. close enough to boost) tracking the player can hear it. This is the incentive that defenders need to follow a player instead of merely camping in or near the pbox waiting for him to return.

Edit: Upon reading the other posts; as I said above, but the keeper can hear it anywhere in his half.

i'd say yes it is, but not from the half-way line if they're near the pbox, maybe aboout 10-15m away?

It's important a keeper can hear an opponent power up, even if he is shooting form a distance IMHO.

David this poll sucks, the solution and problem aren't as straightforward as the poll makes them seem. Many people don't know why the sound would be bad, so they just vote yes it's good. If you don't know how the powerup sound changes gameplay, make a quick beta of 1.7 with a serverside option to have it on/off. Then play with a few of the NA people posting here so we can show you the differences, which are subtle but VERY important.

uh, the difference will be 250 ping for me if i'm to play with the na's. and i like the powerup sound, its not the problem. The problem is the long time it takes to powerup. give us a shorter, faster powerup to make it harder to shoot, but then give us some more power for good shots. pls

Taking it out isn't really going to enhance or fix gameplay. It's the over-distanced boost. Gotta make it 2d2o again.

Boosting is a part of the game now, deal with it. You can lower it some but taking boost out completely changes the core of the game which shouldn't happen this late in its lifespan.

And for the naysayers, you have to play without the boost sound to understand why it's so important how much its affecting your defensive style subconsciously.
