Well that site kind of led me back to Wikipedia where I then spent 20 minutes looking at Rubik's Cube articles. Sorry, but Wikipedia pwns all.

I found this there :o Can't solve my own Rubik's but this Japanese guy takes all the fun out of it ^^ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 6410134693
btw quite a few threads with Rubik's Cube themes in NotPron lol

Yes <3

But I didn't quite think of this as a competition. o_O

...I'm sorry if I misunderstood that.

:D Any time I read wikipedia a single article will lead up to 20-something tabs.

The same thing could happen with half of them as well :D
It's all so interesting /o\ I'm thinking of quiting school and just reading wikipedia all day :)

edit:

:x didn't you play notpr0n?
He's basically telling you it's worth it to learn random stuff.

Didn't you enjoy notpr0n teaching you morse and how to handle applications etc.?

This is basically advising the same thing :\
Are there any arguments why you regard this as 'stupid stuff'?
Because I'm quite curious :)

yeah i loved notpron, but more because it was challenging, and smart.. not really because i was learning new stuff and all.. (even though that's not bad)
about the articles: the tic tac toe one is very obvious, AND it DOESN'T give you a 100% efficient strategy to win! but that's ok i mean it's just a game after all..
but the article i really did find stupid was the How to play jazz piano one... i mean come on what's that? some recipe?.. maybe it's just me, but i hate it when people are giving "directions" or "points" when it comes to art.. learning to play jazz is an adventure, a long one, it shouldn't be summarized like they did..
the worst one is the "how to exercise an open mind" one.. it would be nice as a joke.. it's a list of very random stuff that dont seem to be really useful, stuff that actually many people already do .. and many of the advices can be summarized by a simple sentence : do what you don't normally do .. i don't know man,it's just not interesting... and yeah! why ? why watching series or reading books or listening to music i dislike?.. i mean come on everyone has a taste.. and tastes change gradually.. you shouldn't force yourself to change it..

It's just a guideline, and often to be taken with a grain of salt o_O

Guides like that should still usually stress time and motivation, which they do ;) so I don't see your point :D
Obviously learning to do something 'big' like that isn't just a trick ;p

Also, I think the 'open mind' one is pretty decent on giving some examples of how to think ;p
Of course it's a narrow concept of open-mindedness, but the message is still useful :D
As for your summary:
"Do what you don't normally do" sums it up quite nicely, yes.

Not many people would take that advice without any examples though, right?

ps: I do think forcing yourself to listen to different kinds of music and look at other artforms is quite good.
If you keep ignoring other genres and artforms your taste wont 'gradually' change by itself, you know..

well i did discover a lot of different artforms by myself and without having to search for them .. you know, just by living my normal life.. discoveries just come by themselves.. (for an example: i had never liked cold play, till this morning, was watching tv and i heard a nice song by them, and i was like : ah ok they're not that bad).
IGNORING other artforms is, no doubt about it, wrong. But you don't have to TAKE the decision to discover new stuff, (and especially stuff you know you dislike :-O) i think it would steal some of the "joy" of discovery.

i'm not saying that those "guides" won't be useful for anybody, i'm just saying that they aren't for me .. if you like them then great ..

i just don't, i find them stupid like i said :D

peace

you are talking trash about the jazz piano thing.
it is telling the right thing. a very rough guideline to build all the art on top

Then what's the problem with looking for it yourself? o_O

Surely you can't trust MTV to filter what you hear..

ps: Being open-minded doesn't mean you have to actually like everything..
..just that you're able to appreciate it for what it is, giving you the ability to not only have valid arguments for your personal dislike; you'll also learn to respect people that like other things ;)
It's still way easier to just say everything else sucks though :)

i just think it's wrong to make guidelines when it comes to art
