THe answer is so obvius and simple:

Man holes are [usaully] round, because when chocolate-covered alien monsters form jupiter first arrived on Earth they thought that earth didn't have enough hammers in it. So they decided to make some. They had to build some sort of hole to keep all the hammers that they were making in, so they tried a bicycle shaped hole, which obviusly worked just fine, but there King (well... sort of queen... and also sorta prince... long story..) didn't like tihngs with wheels, so he said "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" The monsters than decided that they hated hammers and saws were much, much better, so the obviusly made square holes.

Then, in the war of leather plastic, the pink money-weilding swordsrats of Neptune invaded Earth and declared all manholes to be round, becuase rond things look like coins, and they like money, this also works well for fat people to fit into.

The end!
