I would guess that all religious books would be boring as hell... I know enough to keep me going I think :s Atheism will come through and be the Norm eventually. I hope.

No, probably not Atheism, but at least Agnosticism.

How is blindly following the church as an authority (on the truth--err god) different than blindly following scientists as an authority (on the truth--err science)?

It's hard enough to check, besides, modern science is usually based on a lot of a priori statements just as well.

Religion is "I don't know why that happens, so I'll just make up some higher power to explain it!"

Science is "We don't know exactly what happens, but we'll thoroughly research it and make an educated guess!"

I choose to trust science.

Well, so do I (if choices were that binary), simply because I trust scientists to check on eachother. And additionally, obviously, because science doesn't push any form of ethics on you.

There are two problems though:
"trust": I personally have no idea if it's really true what they have tested and concluded -- and it will often take me equipment worth millions of euros/dollars/pound to check it out for myself. I'll have to trust scientists as much as a muslim trusts Allah.

"doesn't push any form of ethics on you": If science would have included ethics things like hydrogen bombs would have hardly been used (maybe that's a bad example..actually, I can think of a few arguments against that :p but nm that). And although I'm not a big fan of the ethics-pushing people do nowadays (a very good example is the current Dutch government), ethics are important (that does not even necessarily imply morals of love and understanding etc. get rid of that image ;p).

Agnosticism seems to be on the rise here :)

As for everything else, everyone can "trust" and "believe" what they like, the only think I disagree with is people who go out of their way to try to inforce their views upon others! Part of the christian faith is "spreading the word" but nowadays I think it's best to just let everyone be :)

Stories of several hundred year old geezers, demons and people getting pierced flogged and nailed. Sounds cool. What edition of Tales from the Crypt are we talking about?

Anyone been to Normal Bob Smith's site?
