the serious answer to that is that just because they stay open 24 hours per day doesn't mean that they never close. if they close down because they don't get enough business, they renovate, or they have to close for other reasons, they need to lock up so people don't break in.

Simple, we have to park in the driveway because there are no vacant parking space left on the parkway after all the others have parked there.
But:
Why does Hawaii have interstate highways?
