dvd drive troubles, grr

Post by snackbar »

I bought a dvd drive today. I was putting it in, and the ide cable or whatever, theres nowhere to plug it into in the computer! Is that possible? The places it could be plugged into were taken by the regular drive and the cd rom. But the computer came with two empty slots to add more drives, so why arent there places for the cord to plug in?! very frustrating, maybe im missing it.
Is there some type of adapter if worse comes to worse?
I just don't understand why a 3 year old computer would have the extra drive slots to put more in, but doesn't have extra ports for the added drive's cable to go into.
Am I going goofy, or does one need to be unplugged and theother plugged in?

wait, i read a thing online that says plug it into the center part of the cord:
"connect the drive to the center connector on the
Ribbon cable. The master drive must be at the end" on a website.
is that how i do it?
I know which one it means and all, i was wondering why it had that thing but i ddidnt look at it closely.
should i try that then? someone say something before i unplug and reopen it and start sweating like a big man whore.

i took out the cd writer and replaced it with this and now it says its not installed proplerly and my cd rom doesnt detect anything either now.
i'm just f%#&$%* useless wih these things.
My friends know nothing about computers. The only guy who does is in my building and has no phone. Maybe I'll run into him.
At least I don't need to do anything with the drives right away.

Well, seeing as you figured out how to put it in..all you have to do now is install the drivers so it recognises it, aye?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't necessary to take out the cd-writer though..

hah, yeah i thought that too.
Ther you go, theres a new level idea. Make people take apart thier computers and locate something.
jk

I've never put in a drive before. It was that stupid slave drive little pin-jumper-hippity-hop-skippy thing, I forgot to swiitch it, and then I didn't know how. I had to consult a different website to learn i needed to with pliers or tweezers.
Nice instructions there LG.
