Not only in Germany, I'm afraid. They used to do that in Norway too, especially with movies. It always sucked. A nice title that would give a clue of what to come, would inevitably be changed into a clichè that said nothing relevant. Not that the occational "translated" titles were any better. Every comedy would get the title "Help! We're..."-something, thrillers would get the "Deadly..." and horror movies "Terror from...". In computer games, however, I don't think they ever translated the title, or otherwise changed the name.
RIP Looking Glass Studios. Really liked Thief 3 as well and then Ion Storm dies too. grrrr
Played Thievery at all? That was great fun. It was a multiplayer version of Thief for UT in case you didn't know. Dunno what's happening with the planned sequel, Nightblade. Haven't heard much about it in a while. :*(
