The Official release of the DB Ownage Map Pack

Post by Armagon »

It is finally complete. This pack holds nine of the best DB maps to ever grace our servers (and two of my own). Here is the full map list:

DB-Chamber
DB-ClearNight
DB-Dendrophile
DB-Gym
DB-Hex
DB-Optimized03
DB-Old-Smallcube
DB-SmallTribun
DB-Spaceballs][
DB-TheWarehouse][
DB-U

This pack probably won't be official (seeing as Davidm can't get off his high horse and judge good custom maps fairly), but it is strongly recommended that this pack is put on most DB servers. The total size of the pack is 39.2mb, you can grab it here:

The download link will be down for about an hour, as I left out a file that is necessary for DB-Gym. I am uploading it now. I'll let you know when it's OK to download it again.

If I see a DB map that has a new refreshing gameplay (but not annoying) and a prefessional look to it, it'll be made official, and that happened a few times so far.
Most could do it if they were not so ass looking.

Yes, the same boring cube look that runs your fps down to 10

We love those

This is exactly what I meant about DavidM being on his high horse.

ummm, i may be wrong but......

the only positive comment i've ever seen you make on a custom map was a basic cube. I have seen TONS of negative comments on any map that has any slight variation....

then GreenBaize was put in.... (sorry but i don't really like that map compared to many many many other custom ones)

i dont like greenbaize at all, the ambient sounds are annoying as shit (as with all the "official" maps) and the ball goes out of play too much

ya greenbaize isnt the big hit currently.
when the balls are removed from the pitch it should be a nice change to the other maps.

you all forget maps like november + legofan
both pretty good, both originally community maps

"the only positive comment i've ever seen you make on a custom map was a basic cube."

you should have read more than one thread then.

but idd the problem is that people do experiment too much with the gameplay in maps, less is more in db!
take a cube map as base, then change small things: make the backwall slanty or take the goals out of the wall etc....
that would be a nice variation, but when I see those maps with pillars, big rocks etc on the pitch....now that's not fun to play

the problem is to make a map that is "the same but different" :)

i like trying maps with new gameplay - ok most time it's not that good but hey - perhaps one day there will be an ownage new one :D

but what is the sense of a map?
it's not that it has to change the gameplay - it just has to change the location of the game.

if there is an cube-style map with ownage grafics perhaps even david would play it :)

problem is that most mappers are newbiemappers (like me) so the easier way to make maps getting known is to scramble the gameplay ...

well - wth i'm writing - i'm confused -but its wired anyway :P

When I made DB-TheWarehouse][ I wanted something that varied the gameplay a little, so I put the box in the middle of the map. People have told me that they like the way this affects the gameplay, it makes a nice change.
