Some maps are really nice. There are a few maps that add a little bit of different gameplay, but most don't.

If a map doens't offer new gameplay then the visuals qualities should do the trick. All maps change the scenery which is a really good thing. Diversity is always better than the same old map over and over again. But seeing some maps don't look nice, the change of scenery sometimes felt really bad.
