Typing is for IRC unless you are directing a plan of attack or defending the net. Usually the typer is the one who screwed up the play to begin with.

as much fun as volley only is, it is a deturrent to n00bs. A n00b will wander in and shoot a normal goal and instantly the spammin starts, something like this:

BAN!!!
ban
vo n00b
volley only nubcake
etc.

If it doesn't say volley only you can play volley only if you want, but no one should have to if it's not a rule, so dont yell at anyone that it's vo when they score a normal goal. And when it is a rule, please dont spam/yell at n00bs when the score a normal goal, just say, "hey, it's volley only, check the motd" and if they dont know what vo is, explain it to them.

And servers can be vo if the option is not on, some servers leave it off because it doesn't allow touchdowns (carrying ball into the goal) or body volleys off shots off the wall. So, if the server is meant to be volley only, say so in the motd.

Davidm: please include touchdowns in the volley only option, as well as body volleys. Or have two options, vo w/ tds and vo w/o tds.

A while ago, I would have said VO is the best. However, over the last couple of months, I have been steering away from the volleys and more towards the normal shots (mainly because I have found volleys less effective in many cases). My scoring has increased drastically as a result, and I have come to realise, that DB has so many strategies and tactics that would go to waste in a VO game.

ok - lets end this confusion. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE in the next version of deathball allow somthing in a map to be defined to decide if a goal is volly only. or normal. so those who want to design a volly only map can do so reguardless of server settings.

It is annoying. I do like both styles of play however. sometimes an entire server will agree to play volly only, and someone pops on and scores normally. while i think the server should just shutup and not go 'lame' and say 'oh we're playing vo man, do you mind?' or somthing gay like that.

when i mapped for QWTF they had global settings. where you could makeup your own in the editor in which the mod would look for certain strings like

make teamflags=2 or whatever. just make vollyonlygoals=0 false 1 true. or somthing or put some kinda vote option before a match starts to give servers the ability to let those who are currently playing change it for that current map by casting votes before the match starts every time

The VO and n00bs point is a good 1...I spent about 5 mins the other day trying to teach a n00b how to volley...he just couldn't seem to time it at all..(I didn't look at his ping tbh)...if it's volley only...have the option on tbh...and wht inphidel sugests is a top idea...maps that can configure the server.

I completely agree with you, but the thing is, as you know, NA servers don't play these 24/7 maps, if you leave the VO option on, and it goes to something like cube, it sucks bad, because cube is so large, it's not very fun for vo.

The best way you could do it, is somehow make it so you can pick which maps can be volley only, and which ones cant

ya.. i'm going to play regular on small cube because VolleyOnly=false is what it says in the MOTD...

gimmy a fucking break. Either let the server admins set specific settings for specific maps, or make it a map setting to specify VO. Now's when some smartass says "make a mutator to do it" but why should this be the server admins responsibility?

On many servers they have Cube and Tribun but they also have smaller maps like SmallEnclosure and SmallCube. Unless you expect a server admin to come on adn change volleyonly parameters every match change (which is asking WAYYYY too much of them) then your arguement David is about as flimsy as a sheet of paper.
