I've just seen this thread and I'm really surprized. It must be due to the keyboard controler because I work in Linux and Linux never lies
I checked event monitor and no code is send when I press e.g. both shifts and Q.

on my iBook, everything is there. many usb keyboards have limits on the number of simultaneous key presses and combinations of key presses.
