I was thinking he was going for the Zalman due to its low noise. It cools better at the low RPM settings and the Venus can get very loud.

I'd get the Hyper6 but it is SO heavy. I've seen guys tying it up to their case to reduce the weight on the socket. Also the fan that comes with it rattles quite bad so you'd want to replace it with somthing quieter.

Yeah as I said, thermal adhesive is a bad choice, Arctic Silver 5 is the daddy. :D

My soon to be new system consists of:
AMD 64 3500+
GF 6800 Ultra (256mb gddr) (Pci Express)

From this system //
1gb ddr 3200 (400)
120gb 7200 HD
other shits like dvd drives + fans etc

Getting in April as well:
Dual Gf 6800 ultra
low latency ddr (maybe)

Dont ask how much this is gonna cost :|

Ok, that's nice. Doesn't help Rens any though. :p

p.s. I take it soon means in 2 or 3 months at least?

Seeing as he doesn't even know the prices and he hasn't even picked a motherboard that can take his PCI Express card...

I'm guessing he's just writing down what's arguably the best/most expensive hardware he can find and doesn't really have plans of buying any within 6 months or so ;)

I think he gets confuzzled by techno babble, Messy. ;)

PCI-E on the AMD platform won't be out for quite a while and obviously he can't know the price of things that don't exist in retail yet. Plus, a Geforce 6800 Ultra SLI config would be pointless with that processor. You'd be so CPU limited it wouldn't be funny.

I think there's about 4 degrees difference between the hyper6 and SLK-948U (with a low RPM fan anyway, I rate low noise highly). The hyper6 really is the mother of all heatsinks, way too heavy for my liking though. Hell, the Zalman CNPS7000b-cu is twice the recommended wait for heatsinks and the Hyper6 weighs about 300g more. >.<

So have you decided yet Rens? :D

Imagine what would happen if it broke and fell down from your motherboard :( (probably taking a chip of the mobo with it :D)

Anyway, haven't heard about the Hyper6 o_O

tbh I'm keeping away from both PCI-E and socket 939 unless some dramatic changes occur before I buy my cpu+mobo :|

But seeing as my mom decided to make it all much harder for me (even though I have all the money ¬_¬) and I'm forced to buy it in small bits so as to not shock her too much ;) I'll just see until I get my other hardware I guess.

I've known people who have needed to change their northbridge cooler just to accomodate the hyper6. It's really just too fucking big. Doesn't even do that much better than the standard hsf.
