It's nothing to do with legal stuff or copyright - it's because if you want to run it properly on a server (like imag does), then you can't use the -mod prefix. So you effectively end up having to use two versions of the same file (with the same name - spot the problem). Why not just rename it?

Just tried out the latest beta, because I'm damn lazy and didn't get around to it before now. The first thing I noticed, was that the new cursor gets larger when it is not over a menu item. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but I personally didn't care for it. I also didn't care for the default name change from "Baller" to "n00b". IMO, this does nothing to help foster a greater community. Someone just playing DeathBall for the first time probably knows they suck ass; they don't need the developers shoving it in their face. There was no player model in the player select screen, and the portrait view was absolutely horrid. If people are going to be buying this version (with the ECE), then this could reflect poorly not only on Team Vortex, but also for Epic/Atari. If these issues have already been addressed and I missed something, forgive me. I didn't post much positive feedback here, as this thread's title is "Beta Moaning", not "Beta Praise", although I do like the new menu and model choices.
Edit: I do see the humour in the default name change, I'm just afraid that some people may not take so kindly to it. Then again, those people may not be well suited to DeathBall to begin with.

most people have a slight bit of humor, and so far all found the default name change funny

Golden goal spoken in any game involving a set scoring limit whether it's a golden goal or not (i.e. spoken after 10th goal when final score is 10-7)... other than that, no comment...

the post sounds dont seem to happen as often unless the ball is shot directly at the post (like if it tings off barely hitting it it wont sound) is this because the ball radius decreased or something, and is it only fixable by changing the map posts things
Edit: and im not sure what the bug list is but whatever,
-- When you try to bounce a ball, or are holding right click when you catch it, it will release when you let go of right click. 2.0 was good because you wouldnt shoot it off if you had it down b4 youcaught it.
-- I also get the weapon lockup sometimes, where your hammer or your RC does not work, but it fixes when you catch the ball.
--Looks like a client side bug (spectator didnt see it messed up)(image scaled down)
