I was actually waiting for a post by The_One ;p always a good sense of quality =D

Anyway...those Sennheisers sure are expensive >_< Also, I intend to also listen to them at school and in the streets =\

That means a couple of things:
1) They shouldn't be all too big and heavy
2) They simply have to be closed, or I won't be able to ever listen to it properly
3) It would be a shame if I'd lose € 700 Grados ;p (or lower-but-also-relatively-high-priced-headphones for that matter)
4) It needs to be able to be driven by a regular discman, iPod or minidisc (is that about impedance in Ohm(resistance)? :o)

The headset can wait, but although I'm definitely going to get one of those (since my current headset was damaged by a friend, causing the left side to be totally silent), I definitely want one for music and on the street first.

*sigh* it's all so hard ;p

Anyway, would it be possible to use a Sennheiser 497 on a discman, mp3-player, iPod or minidisc (and other similar products)?

Does anyone know the max. amount of Ohm impedance a headphone can have for most portable players to still be able to drive it?

Sorry about the late post, just built a new comp and I've been playing with it. :D

An iPod or similar should have no probs driving the 497s, it's only when you get to the budget end of portable audio that you may have problems. I don't personally use them for this as they are rather too bulky and not exactly stylish looking.

They aren't closed anyway so you won't want them. :p

My only real experiance them is for PC gaming. I'm sure someone else here could recommend some cans that would meet your criteria.

The tech specs for your player should tell you the last question.
