Mister, those pub players prefer VO because they can't be arsed to defend or to keep and are generally very ego.
And guess why its so few pub players. Because of VO.
Less VO = more new players.

Where are these new players going to come from? Many shiny things were seen at E3. In light of that, UT2004, while becoming an attractive bargain lately, isn't going to be on anyone's holiday shopping list.

What are we doing to attract the remaining players?

The last few pickups I played had no defense whatsoever, in contrast to pub games. It was just everyone charging forward with no tactics at all.

Lack of interest in 2k3/4 is definitely the main cause of the lack of players. The only reason I point to pickups at all is because the number of DB players cannot sustain two communities (pub and pickup). It seems a waste seeing empty reg pub servers while people wait in IRC for someone to !add k.

At the same time you complain about new players (who they?) only getting to learn VO. Pub players cannot be blamed for the reg playing community hiding on IRC.

I've talked to plenty of the irc-dwellers and the majority of them have come out and said they don't like pubbing anymore. I'd love to see them change their minds, but they simply don't like the company of new people. Hence the passworded servers too..

pickups arent exactly good either. in 3on3 it always feels like "either I carry my team to the win or we'll lose".
its 3 single players in one team....and not 3 players being one team. by far not as bad as PUB...but there is just no real team spirit unless people play for their clan. its understandable....but....well....

i agree that more irc idlers should play pub - best thing i can think is at least:

When you added for a Pickup, go play public until it started. (with all the others who added/opend a team vs)

Another cool thing would be if you could vote vo or no vo, seen it on some tdm servers with idm/dm etc. can it be done with a small mutator?

Thats not exactly the problem, the problem is convincing the gKo fag hats to use the mutator rather than keep it on vo.

If -ANYONE- can get through to those guys then you have a gift of communication, or just generally get along with jerks

well it not hard to speak to a thc (hi2u deseaster) admin for sure and thats (sadly...) 50% of theservers

Making VO an option turned out to be a horrible decision

I hardly ever see people playing on pubs /o\ I used to be on there every night, now I never (edit: don't often) see a 1/x or more in the browser..

problem with vo.. are the people who play vo.

seems liek if u play vo for too long, u forget how to pass.
