I didn't read all the thread... but why not have replays show up in a small "window" on the player's screen?

I made a crude little screenie to demonstrate

Thats an awesome idea. Those who want to jump around in joy can do so, and those who wanna know how incredible spammy the goal was can watch the replay.

Is it possible to allow the replay window camera to be switchable like in spec mode but not have it conflict with the standard controls?

I just figured I'd rather be able to jump around(especially if someone was pissing me off... I like to bounce on their heads) than be forced to watch a replay I don't really care for

Also figured how many keepers really want to see a replay of a shot they failed to block? They were right there, they saw it.

I just hope that wouldn't be too hard to code

I think keepers will like it?
I mean isnt one of the points of replays seeing (for defenders and keepers) what went wrong?

Yes, seeing how that shot that went through you looked like to everyone else...'Oh, I did miss it after all'

I can't see how anyone would wanna "cheer" instead of watching the goal.

I'll do both!

Edit: Especially if I score :P

Sweet idea.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to pull off in Unrealscript. (and even w/ c++ DLLs it would prove extremely difficult to code). I suppose you could have the player stare at a wall while the replay is shown in a window.. but for the most part, it is impossible to have two activities occur simultaneously in one level.

For the record, saving/loading replays is also impossible in script. They can be played back at the end of the match... but forget trying to play them at a later date.

Note that it might be possible eventually for windows users to save/load replays.. maybe.

Also, currently replays are slated to be serverside. This is mostly do to the accuracy boost that this gives. (the viewer will see the true player movement, and not extrapolated movement). Of course, server-side replays present saving problems.. then again, demo logging can always be done to "save" them. :)

i changed possible to impossible there

but usaar, cant you use a scripted texture on the hud that works just like the tv screen on cube and project the replay on it?
