as far as coding goes 1.8 is probably the best (minus the whole .2 spam thing) but and it is a big "but" the game play of 1.4b was far superior to 1.8... davidm this what they mean when they say they want 1.4b or 1.3b back not the actual coding... i know that is a hard task but at the very least make it so that shooting is not just something you do when there is no way for you to volley (with the cross volley becoming so popular volleys have once again unbalance imo)
what matters is not balance in the code but balance in the game play... you just have to make the code that there is balance in the game play or balanced code doesn't mean anything.

But berk you were still able to do cross volleys in 1.4b but it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now. If you played 1.4b again people would still do tons of cross volleys because that is the style of play people use now. It has nothing to do with the versions, it's just that the gameplay has evolved.
I am a big fan of the nostalgia theory that we all like to think the previous versions were better because maybe that was when the game was most fun to you. A lot of it has to do with it being new and fresh.
However, i do think that shooting needs more emphasis. And my favorite idea so far is to reduce the charge up sound. This does not really mess with any core gameplay elements but still introduces a welcome change to give the attackers more options and the defenders a little more to think about.

Ok i see what you're saying Berk, but i still think that the memories people have distort the picture. In otherwords i highly doubt that the gameplay we had during 1.4b was balanced. It might just seem that way based on our memories but im sure there was just as much bitching about certain styles and moves as there are now. Which is why they changed things in the next version and it evolved some more. We might as well ride out all the versions and have as much fun with each and because the fact that they are a little different each time will keep it somewhat interesting.

Since 1.4b only useless crap has been added to DB. The 2 exceptions are the boost trick guard and faster shooting. The rest is pointless and aggrivating. Deflect is retarded and always wil be retarded. The replays take WAAAAY too long to play and arn't fun to watch... could be better with tinkering.
