Bringing DB into 2k4 is important because lots of people will be getting the game who skipped 2k3, and loads of new players looking for decent mods will be around as well... so if davidm doesn't do it someone else will.
UT2003 and UT2004 transver files diferntly but that has no effect what so ever to unreal script. so the DB people wont have to do Didly squat. Epic promesed that mods for UT2003 will work for UT2004 and can you say DB with vehicals. (and huge maps). i can WOOOOOOOOT.
Why go UT2004 - improved net code - which DB is in a huge need off, new models, new textures, new meshes, voice, and most importantly - that is what the majority of people will be playing and the profesional servers hosting.
Personally I think a decent attempt at marketting DB to the general 2k4 playing public would go a long way towards strengthening the community, especially since 1.9b looks better each release.

Remaining UT2003 only won't improve this:
-we wont use the models
-neither will we use the textures + their textures arent good
-we have nothing to do with their meshes
-same for voices
-and servers around the world always have a crap ping
Seriously, why would you think we'd ignore this change and just stick to UT 2k3. We wouldn't be able to participate in later phases of the MSUC. DB will stay DB however, we'll just be using UT2k4 as the game we'll release DB 2.0 for.

Because DavidM has said that he doesn't want to switch to 2k3
