id Software have a history of releasing the source code for old engines. Epic do not.

Good luck going standalone now, If u can have more than 50 active players u win.
People from the old ut2003 oldskoolers to the new players associate db with ut(whether u like it or not btw) so u should try to move things slowly and not rush things, if u wanna take a few months in ut2004 with the final version before moving stand-alone that's fine too. But the point is even with most of the oldskool players back(which i doubt) it's not enough to be successful a stand-alone game. Just my 2 cents.

If I were DavidM I'd sell out and give the game to Sony or another random company and let them make a horrible standalone version for the American market

Well I'm not sure how many of you give a flying ****, but I'm planning on making a DB clone for UT2K7 over the summer. I'm not being ambitious about it at all as I don't want to become Sourceball 2. I don't know how it'll work out in the end, because I know it's going to be a bitch to get any art for the game (albiet, I'm not at all opposed to keeping the UT character models and themes for maps). I also plan to implement BR and eventually add both tennis and wallball (as in "american handball"), and I'm planning to use Physx instead the series of calculations we currently have. Also, replays will be gone at least initially and DavidM will be invited to make lego maps.

why make a clone? dont think its a good idea to rip off an idea, either work with them or do something completely different... you had much experience in unreal script?
