Cable (pretty standard in the Netherlands though..in US films and TV-series it's usually seen as something special with 218 channels with shitty films, porn and foreign shows; so I'm just assuming you mean the 'cable' I'm familiar with).

Blu-ray.com - What is Blu-ray?
The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.
Well obviously Blu-ray will have a gigantic impact on a lot of things..
better resolution (hd-tv) only goes as far as compression can go.
so..Blu-ray!
um..
Blu-ray audio cd's (less compression = brilliant audio) / Vinyl (analogue is infinitely better, but we probably can't sense the difference 
) ?
