This discussion was already thru some time ago.

Thing is that in North America and UK, I believe. Ppl are teached there are 7 continents in the world: Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica.

In most european countries although, North and South America are considered has one, which is tbh, the most correct way. Since its used by most geography.

Anyway, this is just a matter of how u want things to be. Prolly, USA and Canada don't feel that much connected to Latin American countries, which makes them to step away from them. But for instance, in the Olympic Flag, there are only 5 continents represented: America (Red), Asia (Yellow), Oceania(Blue), Africa (BLack), and Europe (Green).

EDIT: there are also some who think that Europe and Asia should be considered as one continent: Eurasia, and even some that think Europe, Asia, and Africa, should be considered as one: Eurafrasia. THere's also Australasia, it really depends, there's not really a correct way.

Asia is already big enough to cover two continents I doubt it will readily merge with europe in public opinion. Though I suppose europe is kinda insignificantly small in comparison.

sometimes north and south america are called "The Americas" but being american means.. well here

A·mer·i·can Audio pronunciation of "american" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-mr-kn)
