I found it a long time ago and I still don't know what it does.

Oh - do you know on which occasions it does that? *looks at the symbols* Hmmm - looks like hex, but hex numbers are always paired - and this is an odd number of symbols. So it's not Ascii. Hmmm - *walks into the lab, the device in her hands*
*finds Angelica still sleeping*
*sits down, staring at the numbers and letters and thinking what they could mean* Fifteen symbols - seven of them are letters - hmmm -

Whats Hex?

*looks up* Oh, hex means hexadecimal which means you don't count every digit from zero to nine, like in our decimal system, but from zero to fifteen. But since we only have ten numbers, we use letters from A to F to get the six remaining symbols. *looks at the symbols again*

Ok...so thats a much longer number in normal counting..
*thinks back*
As far as I can see it does that randomly.

Totally randomly? No idea what all these situations had in common? *plays around with the controls of the device*

It usually shows that grouping of letters for a while and then changes to four groups of letters and you use that button to choose one. I've always chosen the top group so next time I want to chose the bottom group to see what happens.

And what happens after you selected that group?
I thinks it's a simple menu. Like when you start a program on your computer, it first shows a splash screen - many programs do that - and then a menu where you can choose what it should do next. We just don't know the right "language"!

Maybe it needs input? *turns the device round and round to check it* Doesn't look like it needs physical input. Hmmm. Maybe data? Like a calculator?
