Well done, aic2276, I'm sure it will all help. :p
I've been busy doing the same too.

Found this thread nearly half an hour ago (It takes this time to read so many so long posts!), and it reminded me that I wanted to use DavidM's bank data for a donation (new month, new money ;)), but the file isn't there. Neither after level 81 nor at temp end.
You should review the links, DavidM! Make them absolute links so you can use the same source code everywhere. Just a suggestion.

BTW, instead of the out-dated rankings, you could setup a donators' list, with the possibility for the donator to place a comment (like in the rankings). It could encourage other riddlers to donate.

Another good idea, Kisa. We have a general election here this week and they are always saying on TV that people will vote the way other people vote, so a donations page might well work as people will follow and do the same.
I'm pleased I'm not the only one who found finding the donations page hard to find!! (lol, lots of finds!), I thought it was because I'd had my wine. I found it today OK, it's at the bottom of the credits page. :)

you may not be able to ask for ad clicks on the site (they'll look for the requests), but if you plug clicking them on IRC (like in the topic) they won't know ;)

Firstly appreciate all the work you put in - it's a great and absorbing game. I'll get an order in for the book this week to help.

Think I'd be willing to pay £10 p.a. for a subscription of 3 levels a month but I'd be a bit concerned at getting stuck on a level and not being able to progress. I also do Notpron on 3 different machines and would hope to be able to log on from each. Also people not hooked on the game and its community would very likely go elsewhere if it became a subscription only game.

You could charge a small fee for people to get hints/help with a level (charged to their account). This and subscriptions wouldn't amount to much at the moment but don't forget there is a probably a big wave of people starting to emerge from the positive levels into the negative levels who would hopefully want to continue.

I'm surprised at the low income from the Google bars - I thought you must be raking it in with the hit counts. Ads are fine but not popups. Also this might be a sell-out but as with your Janatris game how about getting companies to sponsor a riddle level in return for having their brand name/product on it ?

I'll stick a Notpron ad up at work and spread the word a bit.

Guess you must feel you've created an insatiable monster!!

There was something sort of classy about notpron before the ads and the google bars, when there were just the little donate buttons. I think putting in more ads and over-emphasizing the donate buttons would give notpron a bit of a tacky feel and turn off a lot of players (less players = less views = less $) but I could be wrong.

I'd rather just get a new level every two months or whenever DavidM has time to make one. He should be doing it because he has fun doing it and he wants to do it. Not because a bunch of people donated money and he feels like he has to give something back. If notpron turns into his regular part-time job, it's going to start to suck because he'll be doing it for all the wrong reasons.

And if this is where notpron finally ends, then that's fine. It has to end somewhere, and I've already had an amazing time.

I encourage people to donate for the work DavidM has done, and not just as a plea for him to do more.

Well said David_G. I'm still trying to generate revenue for him also though.

I appreciate any advertising for notpron, and you sure have my permission!

Kisa, on Level 80 is a donations list, and check the Credits page...I put that up yesterday, that ok?

I am not going to put ads above the riddle or so...I'd rather close the whole thing down :P

Nice list :)

No ads, please.
Do it like you did in the beginning: whenever you wanted to.

For my part (as a mod), I'll stay here in the forums for a long while to keep it clean and friendly, even if no new levels appear, just because I like the community that evolved here.

Yes, that looks perfect, DavidM. :)

I'll be here for a long time to come too, Kisa, more levels or not, helping new people and chatting to my old friends. The community DavidM has helped build here is as good as the game. :D
