i even think its smarter to release 1.7b
because people refuse to playtest the beta, so the problems will appear after the release....so we use the official release as betatest
I am a little concerned about the stability of 1.7...I got a friend to set up a non-dedicated 1.7 server for us to try out. I connected to his server and it was unplayable. I had a ping of 130, but it behaved like I had a ping of 999. I know non-decicated servers aren't common and I might just of had my 56K modem messing me about, but this method serves us fine for Deathmatch and I normally have a good connection to his server. Therefore I'm a little weary, but hopeful, about how I'll be able to play 1.7 over my modem...
He does that all the time, the problem is that people don't bother installing the beta release because it's a little bit of effort (I know, I don't bother ). It's easier just to release a new version and get EVERYONE to playtest it, then release an update, like he said.
what i mean, is instead of this incremental beta then the release and then a nother release. stop putting out betas every week or whatever, just say the 1.7 Beta is out now. then servers could actually put it on because everyone would have it.
Okay heres what you do. You make the beta so when you install it it dosent over write 1.6. That way 1.6 doesent get deleted and you have to replace it. just make a new game typecalled 1.7Beta.
