Hey guys i was wondering, for the DB maps why you guys dont make it with version numbers so we can just dl off redirect instead of dl a whole new map off a site. wouldn't it be a lot easier to do this?:hmmmz:

Wow, what a useful answer.

And this is why we can't use deathball and other gametypes as well. Whoever made this MOD didn't make the mod backward compatible to run the maps, so you have to update the maps if you update the mod. But did anyone bother to put them on the redirect? Looks like no. I suppose I could do that and then I'd have to upload every time a new map was created.

The worst part about this mod is that if another server is running 1.8 or something previous, you can't connect to it if you're using 1.9 EVEN IF YOU AREN'T PLAYING DEATHBALL. I run a Bombing Run clan with two servers and using DB 1.9 on one server and then going to play BR on the other server where 1.8 was installed forced me to have to delete files manually from my system file.

Buggy.

I guess the short solution is to upload the maps to the public redirect and hope that anyone that happens to play DB on a 1.8 server has 1.8 maps and the redirect won't force a download.

Is there a reason why these maps are not on the stny public redirect server?

I'm new to this mod, it looks like it might be fun, but the fact that there are no maps on redirect forcing people to have to manually install them from the DB site limits it's widespread use.

The servers I play on generally use http://ut2k3maps.gaming.stny.com/maps/. It's the free public redirec that (I assumed) just about everyone uses.

So you are "allowed" to upload the maps to a public redirect? That would solve half the problem. I kind of figured that someone would have already done that on the free one but the DB maps are not there.

I have full control over the servers for which I'm an admin. Is there currently a public redirect with the latest maps on it? Should I not use the one shown above?

With that taken care of, the only problem left is that of the version incompatability. Version (I believe) 1.8 won't let you play if you have 1.9 installed. While this makes perfect sense, what doesn't make sense is if you're trying to play Bombing Run (or some other form of the game) and you have incompatible versions the server won't allow you to connect.

Thinking about it now, it makes good sense to not have the version numbers in the map names as long as everyone keeps the redirects current, as well as the maps! :)

stny has problems with uploads. Many new maps are not on stny yet. The problem is being worked on. There are a lot of DB maps on stny, just not all.

Custom maps don't care what version of deathball your running. The official ones are often updated and they don't number them so can run into version mismatches.

Thanks for your reply Twig. I was more referring to the fact that if you have 1.9 installed, you can't even *connect* to a server that has 1.8 installed even to play a different MOD, like Bombing Run for example. You have to go delete the .u file out of your system directory.

Bombing Run is not a mod (or even a "MOD").

I think taking it out of serverpackages (on the server's UT2003.ini that is) would solve it O_o

It's the other way around messy. The server(s) still have an old version of deathball in their server packages causing a problem for anyone with 1.9 installed. Different U files.

I call anything other than DM a MOD to a first person shooter. :)

But yes, Twig has it correct. Servers with older versions installed will not allow clients with newer versions installed, even if you are not playing DeathBall.

Abe you mong. sorry to be so bitchy but im tired.

a mod is anything made by a fan of the particular game they are modding for, except just custom maps.

UT2003 has 5 GAMETYPES DM, TDM, DOM, BR and CTF

NONE of those are mods as they were released with the original game.

Fine. Whatever.

No matter what gametype you play, if you have ver 1.9 DB installed and the server has version 1.8, you're screwed if you don't delete the 1.9 file(s) out of your System directory.

Everyone get it now?

Uh. What's a mong?
