Basicly, I got an 9800 pro and im totally satisfied, im running it on a pentium 4 , 3 ghz
I was so satisfied i bought an 9600 pro for my 2 ghz

I don't know about the geforce tho.
The shop i was told me the 9800 was better

ati for speed
nvidia for stability
(Both cards kick a lot of ass, and will still be very good for at many years to come)
I have a 9800pro, I wish I had a 5950. I will never buy ati again. Nonethless, if you run stable with ati, then it is the superior card. Pity ati drivers suck so hard...

both cards are really good Like someone else said, if you are looking for speeds and big overclocking ability, go with ATI (if you have the machine to help it run stable) if you aren't looking to overclock it at all and looking for it to be very stable, get the FX
Or, you can wait a few months for PCI Express to come out and get that (have to have a mobo with pcix also and agp8x cards will get a lot cheaper)
Personally, i love my ati card better than my old nvidia card and if it was my choice i'd get the 9800xt
