"Then installed the two 2.0 files over"

2 files? but its more! you need all zips.
Anyway, you dont need to delete anything, if that happens you didnt follow our install instructions properly and there is some tiny little thing wrong.

2) download db20betapart1.zip

3) download db20betapart2.zip

4) extract deathball19b.zip to x:\...\ut2004\deathball

5) extract db20betapart1.zip to x:\...\ut2004

6) extract db20betapart2.zip to x:\...\ut2004

7) run the "play deathball.cmd" in x:\...\ut2004\deathball
basically all this does is check whether
x:\...\ut2004\deathball\system\deathball.u
x:\...\ut2004\deathball\system\deathballai.u
and x:\...\ut2004\deathball\system\deathball_rc.u exists, then copies x:\...\ut2004\deathball\system\deathball.u to x:\...\ut2004\system\deathball.u

8) deathball.u should have been copied over to x:\...\ut2004\system correctly, in future you dont need to run that file again unless you have installed another beta patch. if you want to play db without the cmd, just create a shortcut to ut2004 pointing to
x:\...\ut2004\system\ut2004.exe -mod=deathball

9) run shortcut =)

note, running ut2004 with -mod uses its own user.ini, namely deathballuser.ini in x:\...\ut2004\deathball\system\
just copy your existing user.ini over it \o/
oh and delete deathball.ini, according to xillerator
