How to not scare away noobs?

Post by DavidM »

Ok, not moaning at them should be well known by now...

I just wanted to say, let noobs score goals, that will motivate them so much.
Don't try to impress em, that's hopeless, just depresses them.
For new players there is nothing better than scoring goals (the more players who are on the server, the better, because more people watched them score ;) )

feel free to post other ideas

Not only scoring, they should familiarise themselves with defending and keeping too. Especially defending is not very popular.

no, at first i want to attract people
they download deathball, they just hop into a server (they have in their mind that they will uninstall deathball in less than 30 minutes), so they just need to have fun there, to keep them playing

....and spam...yes....lost of spam

In all seriousness lads, please, please, please pass on a bit of info about the Beginners' Day or at least give them the http://www.db-community.com URL.

I have high hopes for this event and if it's successful we'll certainly do it again but a lot of the event's success depends on you guys. Please do your bit for the community

I've got my db-community + irc.quakenet.org spam-bind ready ;)

And yeah, remember your first time scoring :)

The rush of adrenaline as you got killed and your weak shot let out a load of firework and a screaming crowd, after 15 minutes you have just scored against what had thusfar been known to you as the best keeper you've ever seen, you might have even got hit by a defender.

You catched a pass you never thought you would have, and after a miserable attempt or two..it finally happened \o/

Crowd roaring through your speakers, volume up...you slowly lift up your hands and let out a faint cheer :D
That's when you're sold: this game rules!

I just played a 2.0 pub on DB-Touchdown and I actually had a good time :). Noobs made good combinations, passed, when I was keeper, there were even some defenders staying back :D.

haha yah, icedeamon is a good map if you want a rush after scoring :)

i wish moer maps had music and stuff when a goal happened like that. esp music that delays itself to start when the faceoff happens again. tho replays makes that kinda annoying

Well me neither really ;) 0.9 was kind of boring at that :o ..especially considering I only played 1on1 and with bots ;p

But when I showed a friend 1.8 for the first time..he went nuts the first time he scored ;p

So yeah ^^; cough..

@ Panda: yeh you probably have the most wellknown first goal ever :)

I don't remember my first goal...But I soon realised on 56k I simply couldn't play in attack...So I stayed back to defend (no-one else did) and after many months I slowly became the average sweep I am now!

There is no excuse for flaming on pubs...You know there will be noobs on 'em before you join...That's the price you pay...

Don't rely on password protected pug servers. Get experienced players on pubs with the noobs.

The last time I wanted a 30 min kick about (1.9b) there were 10 servers, only three had any players and they were all passworded.

Not too welcoming!
