Calling all sweepers!
Are other sweepers besides myself a little concerned about the amount of time inbetween hammer hits while trying to tackle an opponent?
While getting into the official UT2004 release, I've experienced a fair few occaisons where I have gone to tackle an experienced attacker just outside the box (NOT by making box defend!)... I get my first hit in, reducing their health by 60, but before I even get chance to make a second tackle, they have been able to launch a full power primary shot!::Pfffff::
At the very least, us defenders should be able to make a tackle in as much time as it takes to fully charge a primary-fire shot...
As a side issue regarding defending, I would like my tackle to have an effect on the accuracy of a secondry-fire pass, similar to how we can already mess up primary-fire shots!

The point I'm trying to make with this thread is that a defender who tries to tackle an attacker should have a chance to get the ball for their team (by two succesful tackles), if they don't camp on the edge of the penalty zone, rather than merely making a single tackle that worsens the accuracy of the attacker's primary-fire shot...
We don't have offside rules of any sort, forcing sweepers to defend deeper, yet 'making box defend' as a casual public server player is damn right boring. Defenders don't want to stay back and help their team's keeper, just to hear the sound made when a primary-fire shot has gone pear-shaped, they want to have the possibility of winning the ball back for their team with a(2) well timed challenge(s).

Its fine as it is. If you can't time the tackle to concide with their chargeup then thats your fault. If it was changed so you could always get in two hits defence would be too easy.
On the subject of shaking passes, I really don't know. If an attacker gets close enough for an alt-fire shot to be effective then the defence is doing something wrong......I'm not sure what adding shake would do to the balance of the game (which I have to admit is OK at the moment)

DB isn't favoured towards defence, hence we have rarely seen 1-0 victories at top level (DBL1), or in pub games that tend to be much shorter in match length!
I can't recall the thread where he posted, but I do believe that DavidM & co increased the maximum velocity of primary-fire shots in DB2.0 to counter deep defending.
If a defender has caught up with the ballcarrying attacker, several seconds outside the penalty zone, they should be able to inflict two lots of damage (death) to the attacker... one tackle before charging and one during charge-up!
Adding shake-time to secondry-fire isn't about shots on goal, its about affecting the accuracy of passes to a teammate, should the ballcarrier try to release the ball shortly after a tackle.
Attackers are always going to moan about defenders who camp in the penalty zone, while defenders are always going to say we are forced to behave this way due to boosting and the lack offsides.
The issues raised in this thread should be addressed so that defenders can be rewarded for doing their job, retrieving the ball from the offense further up the pitch, rather than standing in the penalty zone all game.

Most defenders I know don't stand anywhere near the penaty zone for half the game. Most of the time when they do it's because the opposition happen to be close to the penalty zone anyway, and it'd be stupid to stand outside it... I might refer you to this thread by Mr Wibble Esquire person if you need some tips about defending outside the box
