hey im GuY, new to the deathaball scene, and I figured id make a forum account so i can be part of the group other than sucking out on the field. But im trying, and i hope ill get better here soon.

I also had a question, does the latency of the server effect the timing you need to volley? Becuase i joined a random server with high latency, and i couldnt volley at all, and when i did, it looked laggy when i shot. But on the FO server, im really good at hitting it. Was i just having a bad day, or do laggy servers make you have to time your volleys different?

Thanks.

welcome to paylay's forums!
now you can join our daily rituals in which we adore paylay

volley question....sure, it's all about the ping
the higher the ping, the later it all happens

when you have a ping of 250, you fire and it happens 0.25 secs later in game....you know...

I have the thankless task of taking care of the herds of women that come to worship Paylay, but he's much too serious about Deathball to deal with them. It's a rough, often sticky job, but someone's gotta do it.

Also be sure to visit on http://www.db-community.com too.

Uhm, hi :)

If you have a ping of 100 or higher, you will have to adjust your timing, which can be hard /o\

Experienced players like to play in servers from other continents, because they're playing when they should be in bed, or just because they want a challenge (or play with some North-American friends, or whatever)

Basically imo you can play up to 170 ping or so, from there it gets near impossible, because with that ping you'll usually experience a large amount of fluctuation (meaning your ping changes the entire time, which can be disturbing because you can't get used to the different timing).

If you're not all that good at volleying yet, it's best to stick to servers on your own continent :) you can easily see where a server is looking at ping, the server's name, or the players in the server.

Hope you have fun with Deathball, and I'm sure you'll be improving (if even Messy can play properly, then anyone can learn).

edit: oh shit..forgot >_< sorry: paylay, I love you \o/ please don't ban me :(

I'd disagree with Messy there. I'd say <50ping is lovely, 50-100 is playable, 100-120 is *just about ok* and anything higher than 120 is no good. But then again, I'm shit.

oh, and hi GuY \o/

I use to play with pings of 150-200 when I was forced to play on 56k. You really need to anticipate things, split second reactions just won't be registered on a high ping. Volleying is hard with a high ping as is timing tackles etc, but it's not totally unplayable...It just takes some getting use to...

5v5 vo smallcube with 56k on the other hand is nigh-on impossible!

i played on an oz server awhile back it was kinda fun! glad is was smallcube cuz having to press the volley button 1.5 seconds ahead of time was tough!. but still managed to score a bunch. mostly thanks to bounce :) bounce is a high pings best friend

I played on an Ozzy server today, you can pull of passes (with 2 second delay), and catch things pretty well, but boosting and volleying just don't work.

Assisting is also hard, you can score perfectly well with shots though, if you get enough space, they can be just as good as they would normally be :) (placement-wise, strength/charge is harder)
