I think it would be cool to play a classic football mode in UT2k4, something to give old veterans something else to play, like Rens's mutators and gametypes do. FIFA in 1st person.


Changes that should be be made to accomplish a more real game:
Remove lock-on passing
Add Sprint
Remove boosting
No kills, but a successful hit knocks the ball loose (triggers the ball to come out in a random direction at a low speed)

Pitch Boundaries with:
Throw-ins - These can be accomplished by: Take the closest, non-keeper, member of the team that gets the ball, Spawn him out of bounds with the ball, Make him not able to move until he shoots it. Maybe limit the power of the throw-in. He can't be tackled until he passes.
Corner kicks - Same as throw in, except in the corner with no limit of power.
Goal kicks - Simply gives the keeper the ball. Spawn the ball on the keeper.


Penalties:
Offsides - Code an invisible line on the last defender. Don't really know how to do this right. Maybe if the ball pases this line while a forward is past the line.
Penalties - If an attacker is tackled in the back while defender is sprinting.
Free kicks - Spawn the closest guy on the ball. Don't allow him to move until he passes. He can't be tackled until he passes.
Penalty kicks - Free kick at the top of the box, kill everyone but the goalies and goalie can't move untile shooter starts charge. After the shot, everyone spawns around the p-box.

Also would need:
1 Map with proper accomidations
Soccer ball texture

UR idea just make me THROW UP ( i 'd trhow up anyway couse i'm drunk atm) , but really if u wanna turn DB in a GAY soccer MOD, i prefer PES for ever.

runo they did say it would be a differant mod entirely and no-one would be forcing you to play or download it

When we started with DB, I chose NOT to make a football game, because the gameplay wouldn't work in first person.
If you try to do Football, all will complain that it's not totally like it, that's what you will be judged on. So I made Deathball, which is similar, but doesn't try to be like it. But all Football fans will have fun with it.

Football wouldn't work controle wise. How would you do dribblings and stuff?
How to decide if a shot is hard or not? (there is no powerup time in real life, it would just fuck it up, a hard shot takes just as long as a soft one)
Tacklings? Would seem random due to ping, same for Offside....it would be the moaning point number 1, but it's a main part of the game...
etc etc
many things wouldnt work....

Deathball is just great couse u can do things u can't do in a footballl game... Like boost a man 6 meters high and shot a volley with a balllauncher on ur 4th jump in the air.... and kill attackers in ur pbox..
Deathball it's not really like a football game, it's a total different sport and it's great for this reason.
