Ok my version of UT2k4 is going to be here soon so i started to prep my system to play it.
As im in linux atm i found a few problems whilst i tried to play other games. Basically it seems only one application at a time can use the soundcard, which is a problem if i leave xmms open and try to run something else i get lockups/errors.

Im using Slackware 10, kernel 2.6.7
My soundcard is built onto my Abit NF7-S
-Card: Nvidia nForce2
-Chip: Realtek ALC650F
I believe.

Also anyone that knows the fix for why i had to disable USB2.0 in my bios so i could use X would be great.

Anyone that can help with either/both of these problems would be great, especially if they could msg me on IRC, ill be on Qnet as FireCell.
If you need anymore details ill be glad to update this (ive probably missed something out, been up for many hours trying to fix this).

sounds like alsa is buggered. (you *are* using alsa right? :))
Check the alsa project pages, look up your soundcard, and make sure the settings are correct. Other than that, not really sure.

The usb2.0 thing sounds like a bad kernel configuration option. Check that you are either a: using the right usb module (iirc, ohci is the 2.0 one) b: that it's being loaded on startup (jump into init 3 or sth, and lsmod it). You also might want to take a look and make sure the nforce2 drivers are compiled in to the kernel properly.

I cant really help more than that atm, I'm stuck in denmark on an XP laptop, so this is all from memory. If you have these probs still in a couple of weeks, i'll try my best to lend a hand.

Cheers for the help yeah im using ALSA. Ive had to learn to recompile my kernel for the first time was a fun experience.

Im thinking about not doing it over with sound support and not ALSA. Then building it completely from source, but from reading the alsa project page i got myself highly confused.

Hopefully i can get it fixed before a few weeks but if not i would appreciate some help, so thanks.

Windows = Less problems, on what planet?

But anyway i fixed the problem, basically i concluded that my soundcard didnt have hardware mixing (maybe not true). Although there are software fixes for this that i could have used i decided to do a test. So i put my Audigy 2 back in (which for sure does have hardware mixing) and then made sure ALSA knew what card i was using and now i can use my sound perfectly.

At this very moment im installing UT2k4 :D
