I was just cruising some sites for doom etc till I found this article on a site, I just like to know how you feel about it:

Since the horrific murder of a 14 year old was commited by a 17year-old British citizen, who played the bloody game "Manhunt", the media has been on a frenzy for "violent" games which they lovingly called "Murder simulations".
The British paper "The Daily Mail" has included a "hitlist" (what a ironic choice of words) of these "murder simulations".Doom3, Manhunt, UT2004, Soldier Of Fortune 2, GTA3 and various others should be banned, according to this paper.

But frankly, these sort of articles annoy me.
Murder, in any way or form, is NOT excusable.
Not because of games, not because of music, not because of the fact your trigger finger was itching.
Isn't it so that Manhunt is supposed to be a 18+ game ?
What is a 17 year old doing with it ?The age rating is there for a reason.
Even worse, the murder was drugs-related ! That's something that's illegal anyway.

Moreover, what is the whole point here ? Do violent games create killers ?
Simple enough, they don't create killers, a game is created for people to relax and play away some daily stresses.
Simple maths is enough to question the paper's reasoning :
Calculate the amount of violent games sold, add about 20% due to warezmonkeys.
Divide that by the amount of gamers and you'll get about 4 violent games per gamer.
Now this number is not even NEAR a percentage of game-related murders, but it's easier to blame the outside influences, rather than look inside your own home.
Denial of self-responsibility is a suiting name of such a disorder.

Basicly, I see this entire thing as proper bullshit, no game could obsess me, thats for sure. If that would be true, ok, lets ban the games, but, lets ban horror movies, lets ban rambo, lets ban other action movies, lets ban fighting movies, lets ban aggresive music, lets ban everything that could somehow adjust your opinion towards violence. IMHO people aren't 100% if they let any game change their way of thinking, I mean, the 18+ sticker is there for a reason.

this topic is so annoying and so wrong
whenever something happens the media have to find something guilty, and they keep making up bullshit: "he was playing murder games" etc....and later it's been found out that he didnt even have a computer, but he was in some shooting club, but the media dont mention this...

this topic is boring me, its so old

This topic is so wrong? I never stated that games could make murderers, I disagree at all with that, I'd just like to know how other opinions are...

Also, in the article it states that the guy killed the boy with a hammer and knifes, just like the game... He would have killed the boy anyway? What if he played some war game (i.e Battlefield 1942) and he would have had a normal gun? Or he would have seen Saving private ryan and used a pistol? Does that change the fact he killed the boy? No. Does it change in what way he killed the boy? Yes. But does that really matter? No.

edit. Also, the 17-year-old used drugs, did he not? otherwise there would be no drugsdeal. That just cant be right either.

Typical gutter journalism from trash like The Mail. It's not the first time this nonsense has been written and it won't be the last time. The description of UT2K4 made me laugh though - "horrifying" and "ultraviolent". Oh please!

i know about this in GREAT detail as the murderer Warren le blanc lives/d opposite me and we grew up together. TBH he was never violent, never showed any signs of violence until that night, no idea what the hell happened, id not spoken to him for a while and i dont know the guy he killed.
His house is now empty with no windows remaining=/

Of course games like Manhunt or whatever can help this stuff, but people are looking at it wrong.

If someone is insane and has his morals wrong (eeck..that means me too), playing the game can be the last straw

But games alone can not make a 'healthy' or 'normal' (<-- pff) person go around killing

I didn't expect this with the british though, tbh, although they have that shite 'gutter journalism' Onge mentioned.
What really keeps shocking me is that the Americans keep blaming games, whilst they have a law in their constitution allowing people to buy and carry arms legally

Anyway, to be honest, games, movies and music are all aimed at escapism.

Music helps me vent my anger and frustrations perfectly, and although games and movies help me with that less, I can imagine other people using it for that as much as I use music to vent my anger, and other emotions.

Oh well, I guess most of us will all grow up to be the same kind of stuck-up cunts being shocked about our childrens activities.

I for one, can't wait to see what our youth will come up with ;p

Messy - i wouldnt take Rages post too seriously, it was taken from the paper, "The Daily Mail", or as it is commenly known, "The Daily Hate Mail". Its the worst paper imho, i would rather get my news from the daily sport(lol paper with lots of boobies). It does nothing but promote right wing propaganda - Get rid of immigrants, Muslims are doing this wrong to britain, etc. Any sensible person in UK realises that anything the daily mail prints is crap
