Start with checking if window recognizes them and you have proper drivers installed

Kind of an odd question, you plug in the mic and cam, and voil'a'a'a'a (bah at keyboard)
EDIT: unless it's really really ancient and isn't plug and play, plus you can setup your mic at the config panel somewhere.
