I have no idea. Those aren't my words, they're from a book on Zen Buddhism. The Master Lin-Chi was supposed to be teaching these monks Zen Buddhism, as far as I can tell, and all he did throughout the whole first chapter, when addressed, was to either hit them or shout at them (mostly hitting). I had a real hard time understanding that.

Our class discussed this, and came to the conclusion that Lin-Chi is crazy.

"When the Master arrived at Ming-hua's place, Ming-hua said, 'Coming and going, coming and going - what is it all about?'
'Just tramping around wearing out my straw sandals,' said the Master.
Ming-hua said, 'In the end, what is it for?'
'This old man doesn't even know how to talk!' said the Master."

we here at the deathball forums have discussed this and came to the conclusion that its not funny.
