Hey guys, I haven't been able to play UT2k4 or anything related to it for the past few weeks, i.e deathball. Somethings wrong with my pc and I just don't know what it is. I have all the latest drivers for everything, but my pc still refuses to load UT2k4 and it gives me this error when I try to load DB:

http://home.att.net/~amin1/DSC00150.JPG

I can't take a screenshot because my computer refuses to do anything after that. So I'm forced to restart. I've also tried to delete the .ini's in the system folder (DB and ut2k4) and nothing happens. I got an error once yesterday saying "your cd key seems to be invalid". Funny, I just installed.

When I try loading regular UT2004 it gives me the normal error. "UT2004.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It doesn't want to load in safe mode either.

But I just don't get it. Why doesn't DB want to load? Why doesn't ut2k4 in general not want to work? There's no reason why it shouldn't! All my parts are new and I have all the latest drivers.

I played a league match yesterday because my DB started to work for no reason. I had no time to fix my settings so I just put it on the correct res and started playing. My FPS was horrible and my computer lagged like hell. It was strange.. It decides to work sometimes, then it doesn't.

Anwyays, I was hoping you guys could give me an answer. I really want to play, but UT2k4 just says no.

a) Sufficient disk space?
b) Any conflicts given for any hardware (drivers) in Device Manager?
c) All drivers up to date? tried any alternatives? messing about with settings*
d) BIOS up to date?
e) Disabled the suggested BIOS memory options? Have no idea what the effect of this will be though

I know these are in the screenshot you provided, but just check and go by them.

Also:

Any heating problems?
f) Try thoroughly vacuuming out your case and components (especially near CPU and GPU, might be excess dust on heatsink and/or fan
g) Open your case on the side for some quick cooling before you get some proper cooling devices etc. ;)
h) Underclock GPU and/or CPU :) make sure you generally watch GPU/CPU/Case temperature and go by that (there's some excellent utilities to check those, like Motherboard Monitor 5)

Don't know what else to do /o\

It's likely to be a bad memory stick but first things first Messy, he could be using Windows ME :D.

Get Half-Life 2 and download International online soccer. It should hold you over until UT2K6.

The specs are on this page:

No, I'm not using Windows ME :P

I have XP Pri w/ Service Pack 2. I've heard lots of people are having problems with SP2.

It's weird because all my other games are running perfect. Very smooth. I just played BF1942 and it was great. Smooth FPS, no lag or anything.

It's just the UT that's screwing me over.

Is the gig of RAM in 2 sticks?
If so try both of them on their own.

No, there is 1. I have one of the best RAM available, Corsair.

Run dxdiag and report what is on the display tab under Directx Features. All should be enabled.

If that fails, I would get the latest chipset drivers (4in1's or intel chipset drivers) for your motherboard and vidcard. Uninstall the vidcard's drivers completely and remove all traces of them. Reboot. Install all mobo chipset drivers. Reboot. Install latest vidcard driver.

Simply installing newer video drivers on top of old ones is said to be trouble. This may fix your probs.

Imaginos: Under DirectX Files, it lists bunch of stuff and doesn't give me much information. Under display, there's a DirectX Features that has few stuff that says "Enabled". Is that it?

TheOne: Nothing happens when I run it, wierd.

speedy, I doubt that's it.

I just loaded DB!! It works but when I try to go to Multiplayer it closes and gives me this error:

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-03-03_02.42]

OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: AuthenticAMD Unknown processor @ 2427 MHz with 1023MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT (6693)

General protection fault!

History: UObject::ProcessEvent <- (DB_UT2k4Browser_MOTD Package.DB_UT2k4Browser_MOTD, Function Deathball.DB_UT2k4Browser_MOTD.QueryComplete) <- UObject::ProcessDelegate <- FTcpLink::ReceivePendingData <- FTcpLink::Poll <- AMasterServerClient::Poll <- AMasterServerLink::execPoll <- UObject::ProcessEvent <- (MasterServerClient Entry.MasterServerClient, Function IpDrv.MasterServerLink.Tick) <- AActor::Tick <- TickAllActors <- ULevel::Tick <- (NetMode=0) <- TickLevel <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Untitled <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop

Kinda weird.. It's loading though, that's a good start.. I suppose.
